Japan Airlines Business Class from LA to Osaka

We flew out on JL69 from LAX to KIX (Osaka) on a Saturday. The flight is scheduled for 2:30p, but around 7am, I received an email from Japan airlines saying that the flight would be over an hour late. The incoming flight wasn't going to land until about 1:30p. We were at LAX by 12:30p anyway and at check-in they warned us about the delay. We had plenty of time at the One World Lounge, which is a very dark and very large space. There are lots of different areas in the lounge. They had a buffet with salads, soup, hot food, and desserts. One thing I don't like about all the lounges at the TBIT at LAX is that there's no view at all.

About 15 minutes before boarding time, we walked to the gate, which was a bus gate. This part of the terminal feels so depressing and degrading. There were tons of people there waiting for flights to all over the world.

As we approached the remote gates, I got a great view of our 787-900. Japan Airlines has a sub-fleet of these 787s with only half the number of business class seats. I think there are 28 seats. They use these mainly on this route, Hawaii, and some east Asian and Southeast Asian cities.

Our 787 was parked next to an Etihad 777-200LR going to Abu Dhabi. The remote gates consist of indoor ramps, that look like concrete stadium ramps, up to a jetway.

I had seat 2A and I was very impressed at first. The seat itself doesn't have much room in the width, but there's lot of room lengthwise. It feels very private though.

Taking off for our 11 hour flight to Osaka

Japan Airlines gives out cardigan sweaters that only have a single button on them. It's a nice touch and it kept me warm the whole flight.

This was the view out of one of my windows

Right before landing
Something I found odd about Japan Airlines was that they don't do a second meal service. There is food available but you have to ask. They didn't offer anything.

Once we landed we quickly got through immigration and our bags were among the first ones out. We walked to the Kansai Airport train station to catch the Haruka airport express to Kyoto. It's a direct train that takes about 70 minutes from the airport. I was very surprised to be on a Hello Kitty train. There are 3 different Hello Kitty train designs and this one is called Kanzashi, which are hair ornaments and combs.
